“Meg was part of a trainee proofreading team that I managed for RMIT, proofing ADF training materials. She was great to work with, she met every deadline and her work was of a professional standard. There were a number of occasions when she stepped up to help me meet a particularly tight deadline; it was great to know I could rely on her for this. I am happy to recommend Meg for any proofreading or copy editing job.”

It probably sounds thrilling to non writers to be away on a writing retreat - even the word retreat is a deception - but it’s bloody hard. I have earned every drop of wine in this glass and each moment of sunset today.
Winter days call for blankets and ugg boots while I wrangle this incarnation of my WIP. It’s messy as I move things around making sure both points of view (the mother and the daughter) have appropriate story arcs. It’s been about five and half years to get to this point but I feel like this version may be the right one (I think all writers think this before leaving it to rest). My plan is to finish this draft by then of the school holidays so I can leave it to rest in readiness for a complete read at the next writers retreat in May.
It’s six years today that I said goodbye to Mum. It was a whirlwind, a rapid decline. Only seven weeks from diagnosis to her last breath.
