As an indie author and an addicted hiker, I came across Meg Dunley’s tempting regional writing retreats on social media. I haven’t (yet!) been able to get to one of them, but I did see Meg’s passion for supporting other writers splashed across my screen. When the time came to get a pair of knowledgeable eyes on my memoir, there was no question about who to ask. Meg’s approach to manuscript appraisal and some light, structural editing is professional and personal. She made an effort to understand who I am and how I approach my writing. Meg’s feedback is tailored to my needs and, critically, to my style. The feedback and advice I received is specific to my book, and gave me the help I needed to progress with confidence – I’m clear on what works as well as what doesn’t and I have direction on how to make this my best book yet. I’ll continue to seek out Meg’s input on future projects. It’s not just the guarantee of a skilfully edited manuscript, it’s the promise of the support of Meg’s encouraging writing community. No writer is an island, after all!
