Retreat prep mode

I’m in full-on retreat prep mode as I have a retreat beginning this Thursday. It’s always an exciting week for me and my focus sharpens on the people who are coming and how I can hold and create time and space for them.

This is the moment when I get quite excited about the writers coming, the stories they will be working on, the friendships that begin and grow, the time we will have together and the workshops and coaching I will do with them.

This week, there’s four new writers, two repeat writers, including one who will be here for her FOURTH retreat meaning she’s been to every second retreat I have run — there must be something good about my retreats 😉!

The participants are authors of novels and children’s books, writers working on their manuscripts and non fiction stories and short stories.

I love how the mix always brings about fabulous conversations and encouragement for each other to keep going (which is the main thing all writers need to hear) but also a space for the writers to talk about the problems they’re having with their stories and ask fantastic questions.

What is involved in retreat prep?

The next few days I’ll be packing, working out which books might be useful for the participants, cooking and shopping for yummy and fresh food, preparing the workshops and finding time to be quiet before heading into the four day retreat.

For participants, their preparation begins from when they first register. This includes spending time thinking about what they want to get out of the retreat, letting others know that they are unavailable during the retreat, and preparing words to do a reading and a pitch of their writing.

If you would like to know more about the retreats to see if they’re right for you, you can contact me.
