Break out the sparkly! I have exciting news.
I’m thrilled to announce that I am now represented by High Spot Literary Agency for my historical fiction Un|Common Thread.
It is wonderful to have someone as excited about this story as I am.
Un|Common Thread is inspired by my First Fleet convict ancestor Ann who gave up her only surviving child for adoption at ten years old.
I wrote this timeless story as my love letter to Ann who was only a footnote in family stories. Ann would have been illiterate with no agency over her life, like many women who were transported for petty crimes.
In the story, I explore the impossibility for daughters to understand decisions their mother made as a younger woman. Through the story, I examine the complex, and at times fraught, mother–daughter relationship.
The story, spanning 240 years, is set against the backdrop of Australia’s murky colonial years, catastrophic bushfires and a pandemic. Centred in it is a needlework sampler with motifs that enable Ann to tell her story. Un|Common Thread looks at choice in mothering,
