Keep on writing

It’s been a while. A long time since I last wrote. I haven’t dropped off the planet, haven’t stopped writing. But life has been busy, and I’ve found it difficult to find something interesting to write about here.

One of the hard things about writing when you’re a student, a chronic migraine sufferer and a mum with three teens, is that there is only so much time. And when it comes down to it, I do only what I have to so that I still feel like I’m a writer. I write my daily pages, and work on my second manuscript (oh the joy in an unformed thing) and edit my first manuscript (read: beat it into shape).

In the meantime, when I’m not reading for research I’ve been indulging in some wonderful reading that I would recommend to all. I feel like I’m dining at a feast of writing this year.

Last night I just finished The Memory Artist by Katherine Brabon. Two weeks ago I celebrated my wonderful writing friend Kate Mildenhall with the launch of her debut novel, Skylarking (which I consumed in a very short time due to the beautiful writing).

The books before that included The Natural Way of Things by Charlotte Wood and Small Acts of Disappearance by Fiona Wright.

So I’m very excited to be going along to the Melbourne Writers Festival over the next couple of weeks to see some of these authors and many others talk about writing, reading and everything that this encompasses.

See you on the other side!

  1. You’re amazing. Your daily pages are inspiring, so too your energy with your new manuscript and your grit and flexibility with your first. Go you good thing xx Look forward to reading your wrap up of MWF if you get a chance – looks like you’ve seen a diverse range of things and would love your take on the panels I didn’t get a chance to see x

    1. Thank you (doubly inspirational woman). A wrap of MWF sounds like a grand idea! A good way of putting all my thoughts together too. Xx

Sounds pretty wonderful. The fact that you’ve kept up with your daily pages impresses me!
